Could you start with parakite before paragliding? YES

Should you ? NOPE!

QUICK LOOK

Here is how we think you should learn parakiting. This is the advice we would give to our beloved friend, family member, or student like you.

You work in an office, you’re a kitesurfer a skydiver or a nanny, and you want to go parakiting because it looks amazing?

You’re right! It’s a whole new level of fun and freedom.

But be smart! Don’t learn from a friend with no proper coaching. Bad habits may handicap your progress for years.

Parakiting is very similar to paragliding, BUT there are 3 important differences:

  1. Learning parakiting after paragliding is easy. The other way around is not!
  2. Parakite wings have amazing abilities. That doesn’t mean their pilots are amazing!
  3. Parakiting is faster and riskier.

Why is it easier to learn parakiting after paragliding?

From paraglider to parakite

Learning parakiting after paragliding is much easier than the opposite, mainly because of speed and wing behavior.

A good pilot knows how to read the air, feel the wind, and anticipate changes.

With a paraglider, slower speeds make wind movements and thermals easier to feel. A parakite flies faster, making these air movements harder to sense and anticipate.

Learning to read the air with a paraglider first gives you a major advantage.

Parakite wings are amazing. That doesn’t mean pilots are amazing!

The dark side of parakiting

Parakite wings are highly forgiving, but this can make it harder to recognize mistakes and learn from them. When problems occur, they often happen at high speed, making the consequences far more serious.

Unlike classic paragliders, parakites leave less room for experimentation and are not designed for aerobatics.

In paragliding, pilots can practice managing collapses, stalls, and spins through SIV courses in a controlled environment. In parakiting, deliberately creating these situations is far riskier, and dedicated SIV training is currently lacking.

With a paraglider, you can learn from mistakes in a controlled setting. With a parakite, mistakes can be far less forgiving.

More speed,

more risk!

More speed, more risk!

The faster you fly, the more serious a crash can be.

A parakite flies much faster than a paraglider, making the wing feel more stable and less affected by turbulence. This can create a false sense of security, encouraging you to fly in stronger winds and riskier conditions.

But stability doesn’t mean safety. Higher winds and speeds increase the risks and make mistakes far more serious.

Don’t let stability fool you. Know your limits and respect the wind!

Our advice: Start with paragliding!

For all these reasons, we recommend learning to paraglide with us first. It’s a productive way to build strong flying skills and prepare for your parakite journey.

You’ll also have the option to fly paragliders in the future if you want to. A parakite course alone won’t give you that same opportunity.

Think of paragliding as parakiting in slow motion. You have more time to feel the air, understand your wing, and learn how to react.

It’s a much more solid foundation for your flying journey!

We teach you the basics of paragliding, and YES, the skills you learn will help you start parakiting after the camp!

Our students who move on to parakiting after our camp make quick progress and enjoy the learning process.

WE LOVE PARAKITE  and we want you to enjoy it too

« After a life changing paragliding accident, the questions about why I did so many mistakes and how to recover my confidence in the sky and myself were the main thoughts I had for many months while my body recovered. When I decided to come back, there was no question that joining François and Loraine in Iquique was the one bests paths to move forward. Flying with them in Iquique is a game changer for pilots of any level looking to work on skills, mindset and gain experience in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
